Safety and Equipment Training
How to obtain the safety training that is a prerequisite to working in the woodshop and operating the equipment in the shop.
1. Attend the series of eight classes in the woodshop in February of every year. Click here to see 2019 class schedule.
----or----
2. Check out the set of four woodshop training DVDs from the Sun City Oro Valley Library, and watch all the videos. Buy an inexpensive Douglas fir or pine 2” x 6” about 4 feet long. A warped one is good. Bring it to the woodshop at 1 PM on a 1st Wednesday of a month and go through the 7 steps of squaring a board with Don Jovag. (Questions? Call Don at 520-818-1078.) Note: Soon, the source of the training videos will be online on YouTube. Those videos will replace the DVDs which will be removed from the library when the changeover is made. Check this page for updates on that changeover.
3. All or part of 1. or 2. above may be waved for residents who have significant prior experience using the kinds of machines we have in our woodshop. (Questions? Call Don or one of the club’s officers.)
