SURFACE PLANER PROCEDURES
DO NOT
- Plane wood that has not been carefully inspected for the presence and removal of nails, fasteners, dirt and any other items that would damage the expensive cutters.
- Plane wood having loose knots or knots likely to loosen during planing. Prevents possible damage to cutters.
- Plane glued-up assemblies formed my small wood segments intended for turned bowls, etc. Also prevents possible cutter damage.
- Plane engineered wood products such as plywood, OSB, MDF, particle board, fiber board, etc. That stuff dulls the cutters.
- Plane wood with any type of coating such as paint, polyurethane, varnish, etc. Coatings dull the cutters too.
- Plane wood that is shorter than 8 inches and thinner than 3/16 inch.
- Make adjustments other than raising and lowering the table.
- Make cuts deeper than 1/8 inch.
- Plane pieces wood of different thickness at the same time. (Best to plane one piece at a time.)
- Operate the machine without first having had a check-out in its safe and proper operation from a club member authorized to conduct that training.
