Meeting Minutes
Thursday, March 3, 2022
The Meeting of the SCOV Woodworking Club was called to order at 9:00 AM on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the Woodshop.
The minutes posted in the Woodshop from the January 27 meeting were approved.
John McCoy presented the SCOV Woodworking Club Summary Financials.
Gary Casner gave an update on the 2 new table saws, discussion on the dust collection system & replacement filters for the ceiling hung air filters.
The table saws have been ordered but limited supply is delaying delivery, possibly as late as August.
A motion was made and approved to allocate up to $1000 of the club funds to evaluate the existing and design the dust collection system. This money will only be used if SCOV will not pay for this effort.
Gary is going to ask SCOV Maintenance to change the filters.
It is the desire of the board to get a qualified designer to look at our dust collection system and propose changes to our system.
Gary Casner gave kudos to several members that made special contributions and effort in the betterment of the shop and members. These include:
A. Cutting Board Class: Don Jovag taught a class on how to build a cutting board. Several people that had taken the class have said that they really enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
B. Cabinet construction Class: Thanks to Richard Esteb for establishing the curriculum & teaching the class to the members. Rich spent much of his professional career in the cabinet industry.
C. Powermatic Bandsaw repair: Bill Norton, Gary Brown, Doug Switzer & Ed Caulkin all participated in making the machine run again.
D. General hand tool organization: this task was undertaken by Chris Schwartzman. The new layout looks great.
E. Router shelf cleanup and organization was done by Doug Switzer. Now all the routers and the parts are in one place.
The weekly Monitor Training classes have been well attended. This is being organized by John McCoy and another one is coming up next week.
Larry Brophy spoke about the Monitor Training Program Committee that are currently developing a program to have a more knowledgeable group of monitors and an established path with written documentation.
Non-cash donations from the community are on hold going forward.
Karen Curry spoke about the upcoming Member Social gathering. This will occur on March 18, 2022 between the hours of 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm and will be held at the Catalina Vista Community Center. The cost will be $5.00 per person. She will post a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.
Karen reminded the membership that only Monitors are to use the shop at off times.
The meeting was adjourned.
