Bosch GCM12SD 12-Inch DB Glide Miter Saw
Of all the power tools in the shop, these saws are the least forgiving of an operator's lack of knowledge, inattention and carelessness. All members are urged to read and understand the Operating/Safety Instructions and to obtain a check-out from a Monitor or other experienced user before using the tool on their own. The Operating/Safety Instructions are available by clicking on the button below. A paper copy is also available in the shop. Watching the miter saw safety video below is highly recommended. |

THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE OPERATING THIS MITER SAW. HERE ARE SOME OF THE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS. FOR LOTS MORE, GO TO http://www.scovwoodworkingclub.com/bosch-miter-saw.html, WATCH THE VIDEO AND READ THE OWNER’S MANUAL.
- KEEP IN MIND THAT, UNLIKE OUR TABLE SAWS, THIS SAW COULDN'T CARE LESS IF IT IS CUTTING FLESH, BONE OR WOOD.
- BEFORE USING THE SAW, KNOW ABOUT THE MECHANISM LOCK LEVER, MITER DETENT OVERRIDE, MITER LOCK KNOB, MITER DETENT LEVER, BEVEL RANGE SELECTOR KNOB AND BEVEL LOCK LEVER AND HOW AND WHEN TO USE THEM.
- BEFORE MAKING A CROSS HANDED CUT, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ARRANGE FOR AN AMBULANCE TO STAND BY AT THE BACK DOOR OF THE SHOP AND TO HAVE TWO PARAMEDICS WITH YOU AT THE SAW.
- NEVER RESTRAIN/CLAMP/HOLD THE WORKPIECE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE SPINNING BLADE. THE PIECE ON ONE SIDE OF THE BLADE MUST BE FREE TO MOVE. VIOLENCE CAN ENSUE IF YOU IGNORE THIS RULE.
- AFTER A CUT, ALLOW THE BLADE TO STOP BEFORE RAISING THE BLADE. THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT WHEN CUTTING SMALL PARTS.
- WHEN CUTTING PIECES 5½ INCHES WIDE OR LESS, I.E. CHOP CUTS, IT IS SAFER AND EASIER TO MAKE THE CUTS WITH MECHANISM LOCK LEVER IN THE LOCKED POSITION.
- NEVER, REPEAT NEVER, PULL THE BLADE THROUGH THE WORK WHEN MAKING SLIDE CUTS. ALWAYS PULL THE RAISED BLADE ALL THE WAY FORWARD, START THE SAW, LOWER THE BLADE ALL THE WAY AND PUSH IT THROUGH THE WORK.
- ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE BEVEL LOCK LEVER IS IN THE LOCKED POSITION (DOWN) BEFORE MAKING CUTS.
- WHEN CUTTING SMALL PARTS, MAKE/USE A ZERO CLEARANCE FENCE AND TABLE TO KEEP SMALL PARTS FROM FLYING AROUND THE SHOP.
- WHEN CUTTING SMALL PARTS, USE CLAMPS OR OTHER HOLD-DOWN DEVICES THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO KEEP YOUR HANDS A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE BLADE.
- BEFORE MAKING A CUT, CONFIRM THE PATH OF THE BLADE WILL NOT GO THROUGH A BODY PART, THE FENCE OR ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE PIECE YOU WANT TO CUT.
