SCOV Woodworking Club
Meeting Minutes
November 13, 2019 1:30 – 3 pm Desert Oasis

Call To Order
Chair Bill called the meeting to order at 1:30.

Chair Report
Chair Bill reported on the serious medical issues of two members.
XMAS Party
There will be a Xmas party from 11am – 1pm Wednesday, December 11, 2019 and will cost $8.50 for all attendees. Don Jovag asked why the party was not free. There was general discussion; at the end, the party plans remained as outlined above. Subsequent to club meeting the catered party was cancelled. Don Jovag will coordinate a party free to club members similar to previous years.
Sale of Merchandise
The SCOV Board Policy regarding “Sale of Merchandise Created on Association Equipment” was discussed, Chair Bill noted that all 2020 club members will be required to sign this SCOV policy.
Woodworkers Source contest
Chair Bill discussed the Woodworkers Source contest and urged members to submit their work next year.
Club Officer Nomination Committee
Jim Austin will serve on the Nomination Committee; Chair Bill urged members to consider serving as an officer in 2020.
Treasurer’s Report – Nancy Njaa
Nancy reported the Club has $7,095 in our checking account, has expended $200 more than generated in revenue year to date but we will break even by year end with dues collection.
Membership Report – Nancy Njaa
The Club has 201 members, 22 did not renew in 2019 and the Club has 40 new members.
Monitor Report – Don Jovag
Don reported that in the first 10 months of the year, 9 monitors provided 59% of the coverage, nine monitors have not performed. Don noted that serving 6 times per year is expected of monitors.
Purchasing Report – John Njaa
John reported that all demands, except for band saw blades, have been done. The shop has a new router motor; the transmission in the planer is still leaking.
Website Report - John Njaa
Jon encouraged new members to review the Club web site as it contains information on safety and rules.

Old Business: -
​Long range plan for woodshop / artisan center
The Club prepared a plan but the SCOV Board deferred action of the artisan center plans until the SCOV Board reviews comprehensive long-range planning.
Resident Projects
The shop will be open one evening this month for residents to work with member(s) on projects. It was noted that a member did work for a resident that resulted in a donation to the Club.
Monitor shop use during off hours
Our current policy of at least two members in the shop always was reiterated.
Storage / Bench usage
Chair Bill noted that overnight bench usage must be cleaned up when the shop opens the next morning. There is no consensus on how to proceed with storage but after discussion, a motion was moved and seconded to clean out the shop twice a year and disposing of unclaimed member material.

New Business:
Club meeting time and place
After discussion, a motion was moved, seconded and amended that club meetings be held in the shop at 8:00 AM each quarter. Chair Bill noted that he would not serve as the President with this decision.
Safety tape designating safety glass area
After discussion, a motion was moved and seconded to place safety tape in the front entrance area of the shop.
Call to Audience:
Chair Bill urged members submit photos of their work for inclusion on the web site. Closed toe shoes are required in the shop. After discussion, a motion was moved and seconded to supply monitors with orange aprons while on duty. Chair Bill offered to bring his computer to the shop to replace the current unit. After discussion, a motion was moved and seconded, and amended, that monitors work a minimum of 3 sessions per year.
Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at 3 PM.
